Trough excavation
Surgical exploration of an abscess in the tissues around the rectum is always necessary, and the procedure provides immediate relief.
If physical and rectal ultrasound examinations have confirmed an abscess in the rectum, the only treatment is surgical exploration as soon as possible.
The procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia or anaesthesia, depending on the size and location of the abscess and the patient’s subjective complaints.
During surgery, an incision is made in the skin above the abscess, the pus is drained and the cavity is flushed out.
At the end of the operation, the cavity is left open to allow any additional wound fluid that may form in the coming days or weeks to drain away, further reducing the surrounding tissue inflammation.
After the procedure, the patient is immediately relieved of the tight, throbbing pain.
The resulting wound will continue to heal from the wound bed and wound edges, and will require several thorough showers of lukewarm water daily until fully healed!
