Manometry
The purpose of the manometry test
Anorectal manometry is the examination of the rectal sphincter, measuring the pressure.
It is a diagnostic test that provides information about the resting state of the muscles, the strength of voluntary muscle contraction and the stamina of the muscles.
The Anopress diagnostic instrument tests for the presence of the anal reflex, measuring the magnitude of pressure at rest, during maximum effort and during a faecal squeeze.
The values obtained are influenced by age, patient gender and BMI (body mass index).
How is the test done?
The anorectal manometry test is painless and causes minimal discomfort.
The test is performed in the lying position on the left side.
A single-use, 1 cm diameter, computer-controlled measuring tube is inserted into the rectum.
The operator instructs the patient on when to relax, squeeze, cough or even squeeze.
The instrument draws a graph of the test result, which is displayed on the computer and then printed out.
The patient receives this document.
