Dermatological examination
The aim of the dermatological examination
The aim of a dermatological examination is to identify and detect skin problems and to find the cause of skin complaints.
It also includes an assessment of the condition and nature of the moles.
You can read more about moles, benign and malignant skin lesions here.
Our dermatology, cosmetology and dermatology specialists can also provide effective help for aesthetic skin problems, allergic skin conditions, itching, redness, peeling, rashes, teenage and even adult acne (inflamed, acne-prone skin).
A dermatological examination can help to identify the root cause, find the root of the problem and eliminate it – saving you from prolonged and ineffective symptomatic treatment.
How is the test done?
The first step in a dermatological examination is a consultation with our dermatologists and a medical history.
An accurate medical history is essential for an effective examination and treatment, so it’s important to come prepared.
You can expect to be asked the following questions:
- What are your complaints and symptoms?
- When did they start?
- What medicines are you taking?
- Do you have any known allergies?
- How much time do you spend in the sun?
- Do you regularly come into contact with chemicals as a result of your job or hobby?
- Have you had a previous dermatological examination?
(If yes, please bring your previous findings with you.) - Have you ever had a mole operation?
- Is there a family history of skin cancer?
The medical history is taken, followed by a mole screening, which may consist of a skin inspection or a skin microscopy (dermatoscopy).
A skin microscope can be used to make a more accurate diagnosis and a digital image can also be taken.
This allows the development of individual moles and skin lesions to be monitored and compared with previous images each time.
In the event of a specific complaint (e.g. acne, itching, rashes), our dermatologists will examine the affected area and take samples if necessary.
The examination is painless.
The dermatological examination ends with a consultation, where the specialist will explain the diagnosis and treatment, prescribe further tests and check-ups, and answer any questions you may have.
Our receptionists will help you to arrange a follow-up appointment.
