Rectal sphincter incision
We perform this procedure in patients who have had a rectal tear for many months, with severe pain, a significant deterioration in quality of life and high sphincter wedge pressure.
If previous conservative treatments have failed, sphincter incision can be used to achieve immediate improvement, allowing the rupture to heal completely.
The procedure can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia.
It involves cutting through the lower third of the internal sphincter through an incision of a few millimetres.
The patient is immediately relieved of the unbearable pain.
