Removal of viral warts (condyloma)
The removal of viral warts (condyloma acuminatum) is always justified.
In all cases of lesions caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), efforts should be made to remove the growths completely from all affected areas.
At the ProctoMed Center, it is possible to remove warts both inside the rectum and near the anus.
Local anaesthesia is sufficient in the vast majority of cases, but HPV warts covering a large part of the rectum must be removed under general anaesthesia.
A diathermy device is used to remove the warts, the heat applied destroys the infected squamous cells.
Unfortunately, recurrence of warts is high within 6 months of infection, so close monitoring after treatment is important.
If new growths are detected, they should be removed as soon as possible.
